Valour Cap Lowered

Just saw this in the latest iteration of patch notes.

The maximum number of Valor Points which can be earned in a week from any and all applicable dungeons and raids is now 980, down from 1250.

  • The maximum number of Valor Points awarded for completing Rise of the Zandalari dungeons remains at 980.
  • The maximum number of Valor Points awarded for completing Heroic dungeons remains at 490.
  • The number of Valor Points awarded for killing a boss in the Firelands is 70 in 10-player mode, and 90 in 25-player mode.
  • The number of Valor Points awarded for killing Occu’thar in Baradin Hold is 35 in 10-player mode, and 45 in 25-player mode.
  • The number of Valor Points awarded for killing a boss on Heroic difficulty in The Bastion of Twilight, Blackwing Descent, and Throne of the Four winds is 35 in 10-player mode, and 45 in 25-player mode.

Looks like Blizzard’s trying to slow down the valor income rate significantly. Instead of getting a chest piece in two weeks, we’ll have to wait three weeks. Not sure if I like this. There’s not much of a point to go back doing Blackwing or Bastion on Heroic with the reduced valor there either. Well, unless you’re going for completions sake.

EDIT: Should be Valor right? Darn this split English language thing!

  1. I think it’s more of a “let’s try to slow down people Valor capping so soon after the tier is released” that we had in this tier. It was ridiculously easy to get to a point where you had nothing to spend Valor points on.

  2. Its valorgate, 4.2 2011! Oh the pun fun on gate-termed scandals and the issue of Blizzard gating.

Looks like they’re trying to squeeze out an extra month or two from 4.2 raid content. *sigh*

  3. 1) It’s fucking stupid that a heroic tier-12 raider will need to run 5mans in order to hit the weekly cap.

    2) It’s fucking stupid that ZA/ZG will award more valor points on a weekly basis than either raiding bracket.

There is no other viewpoint that matters.

  4. T11 raids will give Justice Points in 4.2, not Valor. So there is REALLY no reason to go run those.

  5. Perhaps its an attempt to get geared players into heroic 5- man queues?

  6. @Zuuz: I had similar thoughts. I hope this isn’t the true intent as it could add more chaos to LFD. Since there will be rather angry raiders just wanting to fly through and get their valor. So patience could be at a minimum, in a place where it is already lacking. And the folks that don’t raid and are running heroics as their only source of valor get frustrated with the “leet” raiders so you have both sides butting heads. Could be very disasterous.

Yet, there it is always humorous to get that 25k+ dps in your group. 🙂 If they are patient with the rest of the “fail” group they get “stuck” with.

  1. […] Yesterday we got news that the valor cap is being lowered from1,250 valor points to 980. This may seem like an insignificant change by itself, but it comes among a series of others as well. […]
