About the Recommendations
Look, some of you guys may or may not be annoyed about the fact that I’ve started running ads. I haven’t thrown in any Google Adsense stuff or others. These are just affiliates.
You readers are all smart. I’m not going to hide the fact that I’ve set up some affiliate links with these guys. If I did try to hide it, then I would be directly insulting your intelligence.
I’m also going to adopt an important Penny-Arcade principle. If I like their service or their product, then I will recommend it. The affiliates I have on the side would not be there if I did not like what it is they have to offer, how they offer it, or their service. The main reason I haven’t run Google Adsense stuff yet or other rotating ads is because I don’t have a whole lot of control over it. If I’m putting advertising on my blog, it’s going to be a product or service that will benefit YOU.
Why affiliates?
I’m just a law student whose trying to make a few bucks here and there to help support the costs of maintaining this blog. If you’re not interested in their services but would still like to support World of Matticus, you’re more than welcome to make a donation (haven’t quite figured that part out yet). All costs go directly to helping this blog improve.
About Nationvoice
About 6 or so years ago when online gaming started breaking out, I remember playing on the phone with friends. We would frequently yell at each other and scream what was happening over our speaker phones. I tried Roger Wilco, but I never liked it. Teamspeak I gave a shot, but my hardware seemed incompatible with it and didn’t seem popular at the time. When Ventrilo debuted, it was the first voice program I used that I liked.
During my Counterstrike years, we would all use Ventrilo. My friends and I tried various voice server companies but the one that we’d always come back to was Nationvoice because of their price and codec qualities. I still remember having a problem with my own Nationvoice server and it was reassuring to know that I could simply log onto their tech support vent and get help within minutes. If only ISPs could be that simple!
About Dreamhost
I can’t say I’ve had a whole lot of experience with Dreamhost since I have only started using their service this year when World of Matticus started (August). The company was recommended to me by a friend who swore by their features and their price. My old providers offered 1 GB of space and 100 GB of bandwidth. It was like that from host to host having similar offers. But Dreamhost?
- 500 GB of Storage
- 5 TB of bandwidth per month
- Potentially as low as $5.95 per month
Note: I know the image says 200 GB, and 2 TB for $7.95. But if click on it and go to the page, they offer a lot more. My guess is their graphics monkeys didn’t update this particular image.
Anyway, the reason I say potentially is it all depends on how much you prepay for (ie, 1 year vs 5 years). Here’s another thing that hasn’t been mentioned. I log into my webpanel and I check out my storage space and bandwidth from time to time. It seems to be increasing incrementally per week. Do you use Gmail? You know how they have that counter on the front page that tells you how much storage you have and how it keeps increasing? Yeah, it’s the same thing with Dreamhost.

I'm Matticus and I play a Dwarf Priest. My home is in Carnage, a raiding Guild. Every week, I log 11 hours raiding on Ner'Zuhl.
Wynthea is the Troll Priest with the best Mohawk on Nazjatar. Currently, I raid 5 nights a week, and PvP occasionally. I started working toward end-game in May 2007, and my guild is currently working through Sunwell. I've tried playing other classes, but Priests are my passion; I've found our racial spells an endless source of fun and frustration. I am extremely fond of Dwarves.... especially with Ketchup.
