Breaking the 2000 Heals Per Second Barrier

2000hps

The time: 2230
The place: Tempest Keep
The objective: Infiltrate, search and destroy the Voidreaver prototype
The crew: Fallen Heroes lead joint operation

I had finished an excursion into Botanic in the hopes of procuring me a Bangle. Boy did that not work out. Shortly after I finished, I received a tell from a mission commander in Fallen Heroes.

Apparently, one of their heroes had… fallen.

Since I happened to be in the area, I agreed to lend what assistance I could. I entered the area and the entire complex was picked clean. All the Elven guards were dead or no where to be seen. Halfway in and a glance upwards showed that the team inside had a giant roast turkey for dinner at some point.

In any case, we’ve cleared out the room in Voidreaver and a new strategy was devised. I didn’t know what was up but when I heard ranged won’t have to move I straightened my back and listened.

The idea

A group of hunters would run laps around Voidreaver while the rest of the group stayed directly underneath him.

All that’s necessary for me to do is spam CoH (pronounced Coe, like toe. None of this See Oh Aech business) and PRoH (pronounced Prow). Yes, I’m setting a precedent.

The execution

Oh it was glorious! That’s all I did the entire fight! I sat directly beneath him and did nothing but spam those two AoE spells the entire night. If the pounding timers are on the mark, I can time my prayer down to the split millisecond that it begins and it’s as if no one loses any health at all.

And after the dust settled and the smoke cleared, there were only 5 or so casualties. I got nothing but a Fel Reaver’s Piston for my effort. No one rolled on it and I wasn’t about to just leave empty handed. At least I have a void crystal now.

Obviously in order to sustain that kind of healing output, you’re going to need gas and lots of it. If you ain’t outta gas, you ain’t tryin’! Resto Shamans have good mileage there’s no doubt about that. I guess you could call them hybrids. But what does Tim Taylor need? More power! Therefore, I take pride in being the suburban SUV of healers everywhere with Druids as my mobile gas stations.

*ducks*

  1. I love the Void Reaver fight because initially it was a great test of my ability to retain and regenerate enough mana to continue healing the melee group. Without a priest with Circle of Healing (I was the only priest at the time and I love me some Spirit, so I’m 23/38/0), our way of keeping melee alive was to throw the priest into the melee group and have her stand under Void Reaver’s mechanical feet so that she could spam Prayer of Healing as needed.

Pre-2.4 before they implemented the changes to a Spirit-based mana regeneration system it was a bit of a hassle; I’d down potions, use time Inner Focus and Earring of Soulful Meditation use between poundings, and generally had a blast! Now, between the changes and the added Spirit on the new 2.4 badge gear, it seems ridiculously easy.

Though I’m proud to say that I have never once required an Innervate. In fact, I tell our Balance druids that they should save it for themselves!

  2. Matt, make a post when you crack 2400 on a fight that’s a match for your gear, and you’re not rolling your face on the keyboard.

  3. Wow! Our healers always complain about how difficult it is to avoid getting blasted whilst having to heal people up in this fight.
To see your heal dps is proof that they should L2P!!!11!! or something.

  4. Phaelia: True. I guess trees are self serve. ^^

Vlad: To be fair, I did have a few pieces of T6 equipped that blew apart the opposition in terms of healing.

Gosh my back is a little sore :D.

  5. Our guild has yet to down a TK or SSC boss – and we suck at playing dodgeball, especially since deadly boss mods doesn’t work properly any more… So I convinced my guild leader to try this.

I can see that is would have worked beautifully, we even got him to 30% one time, and when it was working our dps and hps were sufficient, we were quite a way ahead of the enrage timer – problem was the “melee” group (i.e. everyone but the hunters) kept getting hit by arcane balls. I don’t understand it.

We tried several things that could have been the problem, we had 5 hunters so initially we let one stay and dps the boss, but maybe he was too far away so we sent him back running. We then made sure all the dps and healers collapse exactly on the main tank, and run with him if the MT had to move. Then we tried not letting the hunters send their pets in incase it was the pets that got targeted by arcane orb for some reason. Same for warlock imps. Eventually we got respawns and had to give up.

Any ideas for things to change?
