A New Day

Some quick updates are in order.

Me

I got a new job. Shouldn’t affect my bloggingness on here or on WoW.com. It’s to do with motorcycles! Nervous? Just a little.

My blog

There are some things I want to hash our further on the blog. It’s hard for me to find things that I want to reference. Solution? Set up dedicated pages for tips on each class which link within the blog. It is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while. I just have to make time for it.

My characters

The bright side is that I scored 4 piece for all my toons so I don’t have to run the daily heroic as much anymore. This’ll free up more time for me to work on other stuff (or at least, regain it).

In the beginning of the year, I took a quick break from the game by playing Mass Effect 2 heavily. I’d only show up for raids. I wanted to vary up the routine a bit to mitigate and reduce burnout as well as fatigue. After that, I took a heavy interest in running a few of the hard modes in Ulduar with several guildies who wanted a shot at it. Even with full regalia, some of the encounters still posed a challenge from a technical execution stand point.

My guild

Rolling 2 full lines on 10 man is an incredible chore. The lineup on day 1 may not be the same as the lineup on day 2. One of the groups was able to score a Marrowgar hard mode kill. We actually wiped on gunship once because I underestimated how hard those axethrowers would actually throw. Tonight it’s back to work on Sindragosa on 25. We had two heartbreaking wipes at 9k health and 22k health remaining respectively. It’s all about consistency and we’re not hitting it right now. I’m still looking for more ranged DPS and healers to challenge for top spots (or alternatively, as long term prospects when Cataclysm comes out).

Out of curiosity, do you remember what your first day at your job was like? Any good stories?

  1. Good luck on your new job! My first day at my current job was .. interesting. I was supposed to train with the person I was replacing (she was retiring) and she called in sick! So, nothing like trial by fire… I had to answer 6 incoming phone lines without a clue as to who did what, who answered what kinds of questions…

Almost 3 years later, I love my job! I hope yours is just as great!! 🙂

  2. What is with your guild website slow as hell today

My first job was when I was 15. I was working as a Delivery guy for a local pizza place. It was a sweet job. Lots of tip money and free pizza.

  3. Before starting my current job I got an email from my “to-be” boss saying that everything was set up and ready to go. My first day they didn’t even have a chair to put me in, let alone an office, desk, computer, etc.

Being disabled this made me a little upset. I told them that I’d start working once they had a place for me to work. Eventually they called me back…it took 3 weeks to get a computer with all applications and programs up and running.

    /sigh

Good luck with your job, hope it works out well!

  4. I remember my first day as clear as unfrosted glass. I walked into the office to see my new boss sitting on the couch in the lobby with a girl bawling her eyes out. He asked me to wait downstairs in the main building lobby and we would head over to meet a client. I later found out that the girl who was bawling was the girl I was replacing…he forgot to let her go before I started! We only had a hald day after that because he had to take the staff out for lunch to say goodbye and sent me home with his laptop and passwords to try out some new software.

    Yeah…that was interesting…

  5. I went from one province in a small city on the east coast of Canada to the capital City of Ottawa. I was going to work for an Insurance Adjusting firm and I had to take the bus and not knowing this big city at all made me crazy with worry.

I took 3 buses (but apparently could have been 2). I have to say I was a basket case. I fumbled lots that day but the folks were patient and they would chuckle pleasantly at my east coast accent. It took me about 3 weeks to get comfortable with the busing system but finally I got the hang of things nd although I didn’t stay with that company, I do love Ottawa and continue to live here.

I was never excited about the first day of any job…just nervous:)

  6. Good luck with the new job! I remember my first day at work… it was terrifying and I was totally overwhelmed but I persevered and survived 🙂

The first day will always be tough but don’t worry about it (although you will even with everyone telling you not to!) and just remember that they expect absolutely nothing from you 🙂

  7. My first day of work was bloody. Me and the manager were putting up lights, cleaning, rearranging the displays etc, which in itself was pretty straight forward. Though I did spend the 2nd half with a couple of bandaids covering the gash I managed to slice into my index finger. Fun times…

  8. Motorcycles, eh? GL with that 🙂

My first day on the job was pretty easy. I showed up late because it was winter and someone had plowed my car in. Got here, didn’t do a whole lot except get my e-mail, phone, etc set up, went home early. I wish every day could be like that!

  9. Take notes and look interested. It’ll impress the big, boss man. Find a way to remember everyone’s name, too. That’s the hardest part. Being introduced to a million ppl, and not being able to remember names. I’m horrible at it.

Buying lunch or coffee for everyone, or baking cookies during your first week helps too. (Time to call up mom!) 🙂

    Good Luck!
