Amazing article. Very nice read, even if u already know most of it.

Couple of things I noticed in your explanations of talents:
Imp IF: also increases armor, not just spp and stacks?
Inner Focus: Serendipity doesn’t proc from crits, it procs from all heals from the spells it says it does, proccing from crits is the old mechanic I think.
Borrowed Time: Penance doesn’t use up the haste effect. Amazing to do on a target: Shield -> hasted Penance -> hasted Gheal.

Not sure about the Inner Fire thing, but the others are true as of current patch

Very nice article. There has been a shortage of these kind of (Holy) Priest guides ever since the author of A Dwarf Priest (http://dwarfpriest.com/) disappeared. I’m looking forward to part 2

Btw, do you have any plans to include a section about stats priorities and/or pre-raid gearing in one of the future posts? If not, then consider this a suggestion/request

(I saw Matt did an article on pre-Naxx gear, but that was pre-3.1 and it seems that it hasn’t been updated since)

One of my favorite novels contains the quote “infinite are the arguments of mages,” and i always feel like it’s applicable to Priests in this setting.

My rejection of Spell Warding has a lot to do with the fact that it’s 5 points that doesn’t help anyone else – sure, shields cost mana, but if you’re at the point where you’re doing Freya Hard, it’s likely that you’ve got 4-piece, so you’ll be throwing shields out like a maniac anyway. (Although I didn’t suggest to take Imp:shield talents – most people making this decision would be Holy, and not able to pick those talents up.)

You’re right though – if you want this talent, pulling the points from Divine Fury is the way to go.

With regards to your comments on Spell Warding, I think you are seriously under estimating its uses in PvE. You are correct — with the amount of raid damage heavy fights in Ulduar it is extremely useful. But to say that improving your PW:S is more valuable is an odd choice. 5/5 Spell Warding is a passive 10% reduction in magic damage taken. The number of fights that is useful on is staggering. And for fights like hardmode Freya (25) where everyone in the raid needs to have ~25k hp to live, this talent allows holy priests to cheat that rule a bit and not have to wear so much stam gear (wearing said stam gear will, naturally, gimp the priest to some variable degree). The con to using the improved PW:S talents is that PW:S will end up wasting your mana and, more importantly, a GCD. On a lot of the hardmode fights you can’t really afford to waste either.

And considering that GHeal has become less used by the holy priest it is also preferable to spend the 5 talent points in that tier on Spell Warding rather than Divine Fury. If I do end up using GHeal it’s only when it’s hasted due to Serendipity…and usually that is better spent on PoH.
