I am currently in a guild where I run my Priest in progression raiding and my Druid in farmed stuff. I think part of the reason it ended up this way is that our guild formed really really late! We started out as a group of people that left another guild and then kinda grew. Anyhow we have a wide spread of people with differing gear levels. We needed to gear people up for 25s so we continued running Kara. My priest no longer needed badges so I began taking my druid.

I see where this can be problematic, but on the other hand....I love my Druid! I enjoy playing both Priest and Druid. It is nice to change things up. I'm not sure I'd have wanted to do things any differently. I will say that our guild has lots of problems pulling together enough people for 25s and often we end up taking people that we really shouldn't. Maybe alt gearing is part of what caused this.

The fact is as much as I love playing both my healers I cannot run both in a raid so it really is not benefiting the guild much. In the expansion I plan to focus on 10 mans and I think my alt love will work better in a smaller raid. I hope it will...I really don't want to choose just one :(

Syd,

You touched on a tough part of managing progression. I believe it was further complicated in BC due to Kara being a 10 man while the next step up was 25. If your guild ambitions and plans did not include recruiting enough players, not toons, to fill out a gruuls run the guild would be stuck in Kara for eternity. Next thing you know the officers are getting their 3rd alts their T4 helm and there is a constant turnover of players that could lead to higher progression should enough of them stay.

Of course that should not be as much of a problem in Wrath.

Speaking as an officer of a casual raiding guild, I'd agree with much of what you've laid-out here. I think the major challenge to guild leadership is to figure-out exactly how hard-core your raiding-crew is, and being sensitive enough to tell when your crew is getting bored, or getting over-extended.

That's the -real- challenge.
