Heh, Blizzard made it plain when then rolled out the arena system last year. T4 = S1, T5 = S2, and T6 = S3 right? I just don't see anything wrong with say a dark colored version of T5 to represent S2 arena gear (for Priests). It looks similar, yes, but it's enough to be different. In the long run though, the looks wouldn't matter because eventually of us would be able to tell the difference between PvP and PvE gear via sight.

I don't think your example of an alt being carried by geared people is fair. It's not just individual progression, it's progression of the group as a whole.

An alt getting taken along by a geared raid is closer to someone buying a spot on a 2000+ PvP team. That's a completely separate issue.

I'm contrasting the case where you're a member of a guild that is there for all first kills, versus a team with a consistent rating and similar skills. The base, default case.

As for information gained from set looks, Megan actually has the opposite view as you. Different armor sets would allow you to more easily differentiate between PvP and PvE armor, and tell if your target has high resilience or not.
